If you’re going to be at GlueCon or Velocity in the next couple of weeks, stop by our booths for a demo or chat with our engineers about metrics and monitoring. Or check out one of our speakers!

GlueCon

We’re proud sponsors of Glue this year! If you haven’t been before, Glue is great, focused two day (May 20-21) conference between Denver and Boulder for developers focused on Cloud, DevOps, Mobile, APIs and Big Data. They’ve been talking about all of that before any of it was cool.

phillip-liuOur CTO and co-founder, Phillip Liu, will be presenting at Glue on Thursday (May 21) at 11:20 am about his experience with operating infrastructure and apps at massive scale and what drove him to realize that monitoring is fundamentally an analytics problem now. If you catch Adrian Cockroft‘s keynote that morning, Monitoring Microservices and Containers, you’ll be prepped for Phil’s discussion about the role of microservices and the rise of the developer being in charge of her own code in prod. Phil will go over many examples of how and how monitoring is changing.

Stop by our booth for a demo, chat, and to get your passport program entry in at our table for a shot at one of the prizes (we donated a bluetooth speaker)!

Velocity

Velocity is one of the best and well-attended conferences focused on web scaling and performance (and related topics), spanning three days in Santa Clara (May 27-29). We’ve been sponsoring Velocity since before we even launched!

This year we’ll have a big booth staffed with engineers for demos and discussion on monitoring topics. And we’ve got two speakers: Rajiv Kurian and Aneel Lakhani.

rajiv-headshotRajiv is one of our core engineers and will be presenting about how he used techniques from the HPC space to scale our ingest pipeline on Friday (May 29) at 5:05 p.m. in Mission City M1-2. Since we’re in the business of doing streaming analytics against vast amounts of  metrics shipped in from users like Yelp, Tapjoy, and Symphony Commerce second by second—every ounce of optimization we can get out of how we ingest data matters. Rajiv’s talk “Scaling ingest pipelines with high performance computing principles” will be useful to anyone building services that consume large amounts of data. He’ll talk through the specific HPC techniques he used to scale SignalFx’s ingest pipelines and the before/after results. You’ll also see what goes into ingesting streaming data fast enough to be able to do real time analytics against it. It’s.. non-trivial.

aneel-headshotOur other speaker is Aneel, one of our marketing folks (me, that is). I’ll be presenting some ideas around the OODA loop applied to working with systems which point at the mechanics of why it’s advantageous to make as much as possible code-driven in “Why all the things must be code” on Thursday (May 28) at 5:05 p.m. in Ballroom CD. The presentation will also focus on details of OODA and related models that generally get glossed over in popular discussion and how they apply to the real world.

Be sure to stop by our booth and say hi or see a demo.

We’ll be giving away an Apple Watch a day at Velocity!
