AWS re:Invent 2016 is just around the corner, and we are very excited to be attending for our second straight year! As the adoption of cloud continues to grow and AWS becoming a key vendor of choice, re:Invent increasingly is one of the best events to connect, engage and learn about cloud computing. This event offers hundreds of sessions, deep-dives, bootcamps, hands-on labs, and much more. So whether you are thinking about migrating your production workloads to the cloud or have exciting new digital priorities for your business, there’s something at this event for you.

As you get ready for re:Invent 2016, we wanted to share a few of our best tips for making the most of your time.

Make a Plan for the Expo Floor

This year the tradeshow expo floor is larger than ever. There are two new venues, twice as many breakout sessions, and a ton of new exhibitors. Whether this is your first or fifth show, you should expect to see new innovations from across the industry as you walk the expanded expo floor. Make a list of the vendors you want to check out at re:Invent Central and learn how they address the challenges of moving to a cloud-based environment.

Our best advice: wear comfortable shoes! Stop by our booth #815 to grab a matching pair of cool green socks, hear about the latest in the monitoring space, and see a SignalFx demo.

Be Prepared to Learn

re:Invent is the conference where you’ll hear about the latest in cloud technology and have an opportunity to connect with forward-thinking leaders. We can’t wait to hear what’s happening with vendors in our broader community and the new announcements they’ll be making. Be sure to bring your questions and get answers from AWS engineers, product leaders from emerging organizations, and your peers.

Sessions are a great way to learn more about the up-and-coming technologies transforming the space. Scan the agenda for key topics relevant to your role or organization, but be flexible for others that simply spark your interest. Remember that a lot of the sessions fill up, so be sure to reserve your spot!

Here are a few sessions our team has reserved:

On Digital Transformation

  • ENT306: Transforming BP’s Cloud Environment at Industrial Scale
  • WIN203: How Pitney Bowes is transforming their business in the cloud

On Transitioning to Microservices

  • ARC305: From Monolithic to Microservices: Evolving Architecture Patterns in the Cloud
  • ARC403: Building a Massive Microservices Gaming Platform Worthy of the Game of Thrones

On Operating at Scale

  • ARC306: Event Handling at Scale: Designing an Auditable Ingestion and Persistence Architecture for 10K+ events/second
  • WIN402: How I learned to embrace DevOps and Configure Infrastructure at Scale

Take notes for yourself – you’ll be having many conversations on the expo floor, after sessions, and even in the hallways. A reminder of what you learned in each of these conversations is helpful for follow-up.

Take Care of Yourself

There is a lot going on at re:Invent and it’s easy to get caught up in all the buzz. Remember to drink lots of water, nourish yourself, and meet with friends old and new. And make time for fun – reserve your spot at Yardbird to grab a bite to eat and mingle with us and the awesome folks at VictorOps.

There will be plenty of announcements and exciting news through the week. Follow #reInvent on social and @SignalFx on Twitter for live updates. We look forward to connecting, engaging and learning from experts with our peers and broader community. Let us know if you’re interested in meeting with us at the event – we’d love to schedule time with you.
